Charles Martindell
began serving as Pastor at Homer United Methodist in July 2008. A
member of the West Ohio Conference where Charles served churches for 29
years, a recurring spiritual nudge led to a decision to be available
for service in the Alaska United Methodist Conference. Charles'
interests include reading (especially history), hiking, and fishing of
various kinds. Charles is a 1984 graduate of Methesco Seminary
(Delaware, Ohio). He grew up in eastern Pennsylvania before moving to
Ohio to attend seminary. When it comes to pastoral ministry Charles puts it this way: "I love this kind
of work. I have been blessed to meet some of the most incredible
people and the varieties of work and opportunities for meaningful
service have allowed for many enriching experiences. I'm
grateful for the United Methodist denomination wherein I have been
blessed to fulfill my calling."

Also a graduate of Methesco Seminary, Karen Martindell
is a United Methodist clergy having received Deacon Ordination in
2006. As a Deacon, Karen lives her order through her connection to the
ministries of Homer United Methodist Church and her involvement in
various settings in the
Homer community. Currently Karen is a driver with First Student where she is getting to know children of the community from Elementary school through High school. Her interests include reading everything from
mysteries to history, hiking, quilting and various crafts. Karen and
Charles are the parents of four children aged 23 through 29. About
God's leading to service in the Alaska United Methodist Conference
Karen
remembers coming to clarity about a sense of God's call to this new
place of service even before Charles did. "Continued association with long
time friends (also members of the West Ohio Conference) who are serving
in Alaska kept the seed planted and growing that perhaps God is calling
us to step out in service in this way."
